To front pastedown s pasted Times newspaper cutting: Obit of Sir George Greenwood, another smaller b/w portrait photograph newspaper cutting; and a further cutting of a correspondent's letter (assumed to the Times - similar type/font) pointing out inaccuracies in the obits and defending Greenwood's position of Greenwood being agnostic about Bacon having any or what share in authorship of Shakespeare's plays published in 1623.[Greenwood refused to endorse or name an alternative author of the Shakespearean canon, preferring instead to remain 'agnostic' on the identity of the author while steadfastly maintaining that the traditional view of authorship was ultimately indefensible.Wiki] Author's inscrptn to ffe: 'To Agnes Galloway,Whose kindness did all that was possible to brighten an otherwise dismal time for the author of these Slight Reeds Song. With all best wishes & kind remembrances. G.G. June 1928.' The verses were first published 14 years earlier in the name of George Forester. Some of the verses appeared in other periodicals etc., but with 3 other short poems in place of one omitted poem, and also some alterations to others. The folded in half,double-sided,dated (7 June,1928) handwritten letter has the same address as mentioned in the aforementioned Obit cutting (33,LINDEN GARDENS,W.2.}.Again the letter is addressed to the same recipient as the book.He comments on a case of (his) mistaken identity of being at the Military Tournament by the recipient. Thanks her for a card (picture postcard?) she'd sent of Hadley Green, joking he couldn't be put in the stocks because of the iron railings around it.Also,he's thanking her for her enquiries about Greenwood's wife's broken arm and it's subsequent treatment and physiotherapy etc.He discusses sending the book as a memento and refers to the subtitle addition/change.He recommends one poem 'Le Grenier' after Beranger's 'Vingt Ans' explaining that Twenty wouldn't go into the rhyme,so he subtituted 'nineteen', at which age he recalls being in Paris himself - though not in a Grenier! Asks to be remembered to recipient's sister on her next sight or writing to her.Has added a postscript asking for forgiveness in writing her Christian name in the book without putting 'Miss' before it!' The letter and book presentation occurred just over 4 months before he died on 27th Oct,1928. Born G[ranville] George Greenwood, Kensington,London,3rd Jan,1850 - died 27th Oct,1928.Barrister,Parliamentarian politician (Liberal MP for Peterborough - 1906-15.)Knighted 1916.A persistent and voiciferous advocate and anti-Stratfordian on question of Shakespeare's authorship of credited plays.Along with J.
